The Perera family's pumpkin preserve business has been a symbol of Sri Lankan culinary excellence for over nine decades. In the 1940s, Danny Perera learned to make pumpkin preserve from a man who came from Kerala, India. He started the business on a small scale in Panadura, Sri Lanka.

Over time, the family's devotion to their culinary craft was passed down from generation to generation. Their passion and dedication fueled their mastery of the art of pumpkin preserve production, resulting in a product that is simply unparalleled in both taste and quality.

As Danny Perera grew older, he knew that he needed to find a successor to carry on his legacy. Fortunately, his son-in-law Munidasa was passionate about the business and had big plans for its future. Under Munidasa's leadership in the 1970s, the business was located in the Aluth Kade area in Sri Lanka. However, in 1980, the business relocated to Ganemulla, Sri Lanka, where it continued to expand its product line and introduce new flavours of pumpkin preserve that appealed to a wider audience.

Munidasa's modernization of the production process played a significant role in the business's success, as it became a symbol of Sri Lankan culinary excellence.

After Munidasa's sudden death in 2005, his younger son Chandima took over the business. Chandima continued to innovate and adapt to changing market trends. He introduced new technologies and developed wholesale relationships with distributors and large retailers. Chandima also diversified the product line, introducing new flavours and building a new, state-of-the-art factory.

Today, the Perera family's pumpkin preserve business is thriving, and their commitment to quality and tradition has made them a household name in Sri Lanka and beyond. Each and every fruit and nut ice cream brand in Sri Lanka uses New Perera Sweet Pumpkin Preserve and other products in their offerings, a testament to the family's hard work and dedication.
